An Internship As A Student Instructor At Sprout Up
In 2016 spring quarter I did an internship as a student instructor at Sprout Up. Sprout Up is a non-profit organization which provides free environmental eduction for first graders and second graders at local elementary school. It aims to foster interest in life science and to encourage a sustainable lifestyle. With weekly environmental lessons, Sprout Up wants to connect children to nature, teach them to appreciate the beauty of nature, and therefore direct them to make positive actions with nature. I have heard of Sprout Up about two years ago but I did not do it, in part due to I was not completely sure I wanted to pursue my career in this field. Sprout Up is actually my first internship at UC Santa Cruz and it is great one to get meâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Our procedure often started with an introduction called ââ¬Å"Awaken Enthusiasmâ⬠, where we asked the kids to have a review on what we learned last week and then asked them questions about our lesson this week, such as ââ¬Å"Has anyone ever experiencedâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ or ââ¬Å"Does anyone want to shareâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ . After that, we would break up into our natural teams and had discussion. The teacher of the class had divided the team and each instructor would have five or six kids in her team. Then the whole class would have an activity together, what we called ââ¬Å"Direct Experienceâ⬠, like planting peas, predator and prey game, and local food vs. long-distance food race game. Finally, we would pass out natural journals, which could be either a homework testing kids on todayââ¬â¢s lesson, or drawing a poster with a slogan created by kids themselves. Skills LearnedProblems Encountered The most important skills I learned were no doubt better child management and more comprehensive interpretation of environmental concepts. Before this internship, especially with many concepts I had learned in high school and college classes, I could only repeat what the teachers had told me without adding my own understanding and interpretation. However, with this opportunity provided by Sprout Up, I was able to be a teacher and made myself understandable for

Video Game Designing Laws
Question: Discuss about the Video Game Designing Laws. Answer: Data Privacy Exploration and collection of data is used for the purpose of building modern games especially social, mobile sector and online games. A number of interlinked factors are responsible for the rapid increase in the use of data with respect to the modern gaming industry. The collection of data has become relatively easy with the introduction of modern platforms like latest web browsers and smart phones as they collectors can have data like email addresses as well as how the application is being used by the user. The users have become accustomed to providing permissions for the purpose of data collection as if they dont they are not allowed to access certain features of the game. Thus the protection of data has become a very important and sensitive issue. The United States of America has had provisions in relation to data protection from many years however the provisions of the European union with respect to data privacy are arguably the most stringent and comprehensive. The developers need to collect data from the users in order to enhance the quality of the game but for the purpose of doing so without falling into legal issues they must be aware of the privacy laws with respect to data. The Data protection Directives (DPD) was primarily used by the European Union to derive their data protection policies. Eight requirements are imposed on the person by these polices who collect personal data from the individuals. These include fair and lawful collection of data, obtaining data for specified purpose only once, adequacy , not excessive and relevant for the reason it has been collected and processed, must be up to date and accurate , should be destroyed when its purpose is over, the right of the data subjects must be given accordance at the time of data processing, adequate and appropriate protection of data to ensure there is no destruction and loss and finally the data must not be transferred oversees without the consent of the client. However these policies are famous as they are not able to prove simple ways of complace for the member states. On the other hand the data privacy laws of the USA are derived with federal legislations and State laws and common law. The seriousness of data protection in gaming has increased in the USA over time. In 2011 a gaming company Playdom had to pay a compensation of $3 million with respect to their breach of the Children Online Privacy Act. Outside the USA and the EU there is a significant lack of data protection policies thus their position of data collection is varied. That if particular ties of a developer is not present with respect to the other countries than it would be difficult from him to focus on data collection compliance. A few suggested points for developers for data collection compliance are: Not to collect unnecessary data Consider best way to collect data Store data only for required time Allocate appropriate place to store data Take appropriate data protection precautions Obtaining consent from clients Comply with all privacy policies Paying attention to extra legal provisions with respect to different jurisdictions Ratings of game descriptions of the content The markets of video games of major category have a typical rule. That is , a game developer , sometimes called as publisher , also known as the submitter will require to obtain rating for the game before releasing of the game. It does not matter whether the he sold the game to some retailers or the game has been downloaded from the Internet or it has been released for playing in the mobiles and tablets. In this case, the rating process typically involves different people or parties from all around the globe. This happens especially when the game is launched worldwide. In such cases, the navigation of various steps is a big challenge for the submitter who is doing this for the first time. However, the most important thing is that the ratings of age must be correct. The main reason behind this age rating process is to fulfill the legal requirements of the game. The second reason is to make sure that the children or those who are not allowed to play the game are protected. By doing this, it is also ensured that the developer and all those who are involved with this game are not misleading the consumers. Failing these factors can have huge negative impact both in the financial and in reputational term. Rating of a game is an important criterion, because this is the factor which will indicate whether the game is suitable for all age groups or not. There are certain rating boards that help to provide the guidelines for the consumers about the suitability of the game. There are some other people who accompany the rating process of the game. The content descriptors play an important role here because they describe the different reasons for which the game received a rating. For example: a content descriptor is indicating that the game includes some parts with extreme level of violence the game will get a particular rating for that reason. In Europe, the countries have adopted a rating process which is called PEGI-Pan European Game Information. 30 countries in Europe are currently using this process. The age category is divided into five parts: 3 above, 7 above, 12 above, 16 above and lastly 18 above. In general, most of the rating boards focus on the scene in the contents while rating a game. These scenes may include- language, violence, and usage of drugs, acts of crime, nudity and sex. These things are not appropriate either for children and amateurs. Several rating boards will also consider the factor like gambling and discrimination the possibility that the user got a reward for these acts. Submissions of the packaged games vary from country to country. It is the duty of the submitter to provide - application with a description of the game and the scenes with violence other inappropriate acts, a DVD with the gaming overview including the cut-scenes content that are hidden the extreme instances with the reason of occurrence of these contents. Conclusion Video game industry requisites implementation of appropriate legislation to protect the privacy of an individual, as it is booming in terms of technology and inventiveness. Being a gamer, it is extremely important and our responsibility to maintain the data privacy from any exploitation. We have become habitual to enlisting our personal details wherever required and leads to enhancement of exploitation of information. I have understood that European Union system of data privacy is much better than that of any other country as for now as this system has originated from Data Protection Directive (DPD) that is supported by E-Privacy Directive. Form this two given factors I can understand that it is necessary for a game developer or a submitter to obtain the rating of the game before releasing it. I also understand that it is advisable to give the proper guidelines to the consumer. This guideline will help ensure that children are staying away from the game and also the amateurs are stay ing away from the game. I understand that it is important to lead the people in a right way that is not misleading the people. The developers who are managing the data collection part will also have to follow some guidelines like getting the consent of the clients, satisfying all the privacy policies. I understand that the rating process of games involve different parties form all around the globe. In these cases, the submitter will have to navigate the entire process carefully and in an effective manner. The games may contain several scenes which may not be appropriate for some users. That is the reason why the rating process of games has been evolved. While talking about the data privacy process I understand that the government of the USA has some provision regarding the data privacy policy. However the most strict data policy is followed by the countries from the European Union. These factors regarding the data privacy policy will really help me in the future while designing game s. I also understand the rating process of some countries from Europe, they generally follow the process of PEGI thus they divide a community into a certain number of age groups. I also understand that the submission process of games vary from country to countries. I while submitting a game will have to provide an application with the detailed description of the game a DVD which will include all the cut scenes. These are the different knowledge which will help me develop my knowledge regarding the gaming sector. I understand that developing the game is not the only thing. I will have to follow and strictly maintain the guidelines of the rating authorities in order to successfully launch a game worldwide.

Dementia Essay Example
Dementia Essay There are many causes of dementia, including neurological disorders such as Alchemies s disease, blood flow-related (vascular) disorders such as multi- infarct disease, inherited disorders such as Huntington s disease and infections such as HIVE. The most common causes of dementia include: Degenerative neurological diseases such as Alchemies s,dementia with Lee dies,Parkinson s and Huntington s. Vascular disorders ,such as multiple- infarct dementia, which is causes by multiple strokes in the brain. Infections that affect the central nervous system, such as HIVE dementia complex and Credulity-Jacob disease. Chronic drug use. Depression. Certain types of hydrocephalus,an accumulation of fluid in the brain that car result from developmental or brain tumors. Alchemies ;s disease causes 50-70% of all dementia. However ,researchers are finding that some Of what was previously considered Alchemies s disease is really one of two other degenerative diseases: Eely body and Pick s ease-There also are a number of other important disorders that can lead to dementia-Some of these are potentially reversible,at least partially and should be considered before a diagnosis of Alchemies s disease is made. 2. Describe the likely signs and symptoms of the most common causes of dementia. The first signs of dementia are short-term memory loss. Symptoms of dementia are dependent upon the areas of brain are affected and the key symptoms are include: Loss of memory-Forgetting some recent incidents and inability to recall information, Disorientation-people forget their familiar surroundings neighborhood, wondering how they got there and do not know how to get back home. Communication- people suffering from dementia forget simple words and substitute some irrelevant words in their speech, this making it difficult to understand for the listener. Misplacing articles- people with dementia tend to misplace articles in unusual places, such as placing a wristwatch in a sugar bowl, etc. Loss of initiative- people become passive-watching TV for longer duration, sleeping for longer hours and not performing normal activities. Change in personality dramatic changes in irrationality of people suffering from dementia are also observed. 3. Tontine the risk factors for the most common causes of dementia. There are many risk factors of dementia, many of which are as a result of damage or changes in the brain: Certain disease such as Alchemies s ,Parkinson s,Eely body diseases. Certain diseases that affect the blood vessels due to stroke Which can cause multi-infarct dementia. Excessive consumption of alcohol and drugs. Deficiency in nutrition such as vitamin BIB and foliate deficiency. Infections such as AIDS,dementia complex and Credulity-Jacob disease . Accumulate f fluid (hydrocephalus) in the brain can lead to developmental abnormalities, injuries, and/or brain tumors. Head injuries- may be a single severe injury or several injuries as in the case of boxers, Illness of the kid or liver, lung infections. 4. Identify prevalence rates for different types of dementia. Prevalence rates of different types of dementia to include: prevalence increasing in 6 (20%) people over the age of 80 having a form of demented The prevalence rates in the UK (i. E. How frequent dementia occurs population)as per 2013 figures based on Alchemists Society research. 40-arrears-1 in 100 5-69 years- 1 in 100 70-79 years 1 in 25 80+ years 1 in 6 The number Of people with these differ ent types Of dementia can then be broken down into the following: Alchemists Disease 62%, Vascular dementia 17%, Dementia with I-eve. . Ray Bodies 4%, Front-temporal Dementia 2%. Statistics: 835,000 people with different types of dementia in 2014(Alchemies s society AAA)- England 700. 000 (84%), Scotland Wales 45,000 (5%), Northern Ireland 20,000 (2%). 40,000 younger people with dementia in 201 3; 25,000 people from black in 2013. Outcome 4 Understand factors relating to an individual s experience of . Describe how different individuals may experience living with dementia depending on age, type of dementia, and level of ability and disability. A diagnosis of dementia will have a big impact on your life. You and yours family may worry about how long you can care for yourself *specially if you live alone. People with dementia can remain independent for some time but will need support from family and friends. LIVING AT HOME in the wary stages of dementia ,many people with dementia are able to look after their homes in the same way as before their diagnosis. As the illness gets worse ,people with dementia find it difficult to look after their homes and will ones help with daily activities such as housework and shopping . They may also need adaptations to their home to keep themselves safe, mobile and independent. KEEPING ACTIVE- People with dementia should continue to enjoy their hobbies and interests. These activities are enjoyable and keep people alert and stimulated so they maintain an interest in life. Do not rule out an activity simply because you or your family member has dementia. Activities may change as the illness gets worse, but people with dementia can and should intention to enjoy their spare time.

The Dangers of Smoking While Pregnant essays
The Dangers of Smoking While Pregnant essays The Dangers of Smoking While Pregnant There is no clear evidence that smoking prior to pregnancy will harm a developing fetus, but it is well documented that smoking during pregnancy is very harmful. It affects the babys development in utero. Babies of smoking mothers are not as healthy at birth as babies of nonsmoking mothers. Pregnant women who smoke need to quit and give their babies the chance they deserve to be healthy and strong. Since smoking during pregnancy can be fatal to the baby, it should be illegal for pregnant women to smoke. As a Medical Assistant, I have studied the risks of smoking while pregnant. The following are a few of these risks. The fetus may not get enough oxygen and it may not be getting enough nutrition because the mother may be eating less. The baby may be too small and it may not grow well after birth. The baby may have breathing problems and it may be less healthy and less able to survive than babies of mothers who dont smoke. There are many more risks; these are just a few. If pregnant women quit smoking early in pregnancy it will reduce the risk of harm to their baby. The sooner they stop smoking, the better. According to the American Lung Association, Smoking during pregnancy is estimated to account for 20 to 30 percent of low-birth weight babies, up to 14 percent of preterm deliveries, and some 10 percent of all infant deaths (1). I have two girlfriends that smoked during their pregnancies, Nikki and Courtney. Nikkis baby, Lexi, was born one day overdue but only weighed four pounds, three ounces. When Courtney was 28 weeks into her pregnancy (12 weeks until full term) she went into labor and delivered preterm. Joey had a lot of health problems and still does. When he was born he had to have open-heart surgery, and had to be kept in an incubator at the hospital for two months. At three years old Joey developed respiratory disorders such as asthma...

The marketing concept and marketing communications Essay
The marketing concept and marketing communications - Essay Example 2002). Thinking of marketing less as a function and more as a set of values and processes (Moorman and Rust 1999) appears as the new vision of marketing. The survival and growth of a company therefore requires accurate knowledge about customers and careful relationship management. In this paper I look for the underlying principles of the new trends in marketing. In doing so, I focus first on exploring the new concept of marketing; then I show an example of new trends in marketing in AstraZeneca (See Appendix). After that, I tackle the concept of marketing communication with the case of Royal Caribbean Cruises (See Appendix). Finally I refer to conclusions. During the last few decades marketing has been challenged to undertake a paradigm shift away from the view of marketing as an optimization problem with an emphasis on product, price, promotion and distribution and toward a conceptualization of marketing as a set of activities focused on intra-firm and inter-organizational influence processes. As a result marketing has moved away from a focus on transactions as the fundamental unit of analysis and toward a focus on relationships with customers and suppliers (Webster et al. 2003). In addition, in this relationship the customer is no longer just a recipient of goods. The customer is viewed as a co-producer of service and therefore marketing is defined as a process of doing things in interaction with the customer (Vargo and Lusch 2004). Understanding relationship in marketing (RM) requires distinguishing between the discrete transaction, which has a distinct beginning, short duration, and sharp ending by performance, and relational exchange, which traces to previous agreements and is longer in duration, reflecting an ongoing process (Morgan and Hunt 1994). Numerous definitions of RM have been introduced in the literature since the beginning of 1990s reflecting the high attention of

Training professionals have a leading role in innovation and change Essay - 4
Training professionals have a leading role in innovation and change - Essay Example the importance of training this important component to ensure consistent innovation that subsequently result into enhancing the organizationââ¬â¢s competitive edge. This paper explores the role of professional training in promoting innovation and change in the current organizational setup. According to Omachonu and Einspruch (2010: 6), innovative duties require versatile people with ability to function in a wide conceptual environment. In addition, technical ability and proficient communication skills are important attributes for innovators. Unlike the previous specialists who specialized in a particular discipline, ability to multitask is a highly sought attribute in a professional in the current business environment. This implies that such a person can make valuable technical contributions and strategic decisions in diversified areas of business engagement. Therefore, promoting innovation culture in an organization does not only require recruitment of passionate innovators but also individuals with business acumen, enterprising character and negotiation skills (Resnick 2008). Recruiting a professional with these attributes requires more than just perusing resume or initiating volunteering programs in the organization. Therefore, organizations have become cognizant o f the need to incorporate training programs to promote innovation and positive change in their businesses. Various writers have investigated the role of training professionals in the current business environment in delivery of innovations. Bondarouk and Looise (2005: 163) classified the roles in context of three major human resources management issues, namely work structuring, organizing design and personnel issues. According to Bondarouk and Looise, (2005: 165) work should be structured in manner that encourages creativity and innovation. This includes changing the supervision model and creation of semi-independent teams in an organization. Work structure plays an important role in

Einstein- Rosen Essay Example for Free
Einstein- Rosen Essay According to physicists worm holes which are also referred to as bridge of Einstein- Rosen are space time topological features that primarily create shortcut through time and space. A wormhole has a minimum of two mouths linked together by a single throat. Matter travels from mouth to mouth through the connecting throat. Wormholes that are intra universe links locations universe, by simply bending the space time and by allowing travel between different locations of the universe at a faster rate than light could take in order to cover the same distance through the normal space (McElwee, Para 2). Wormhole theory has been proven through the use of radio waves which are capable of detecting the wormholes. The white hole theory helps to explain the wormhole theory. The white hole is opposite of the black hole, whereas the black hole eats matter up the white hole splits it up. The wormhole acts like a tunnel that connects the black hole to the white hole. Since the existence of black holes and white holes is proven by use of radio waves to detect them, then the wormholes also exists to link them through a tunnel (Sexton, Para 4). The wormholes are also commonly referred to as Schwarzschild wormholes; they are bridges which are merely theoretical between space areas that are speculated to be in between the white holes and the black holes linking two universes. They only exists in equations especially those of Einstein. According to the equations the wormholes are found to be very unstable and would in fact fall instantly, the moment they are created. Other speculation also exists explaining that quasars are in fact white holes and not black holes which are super massive (McElwee, Para 5). It is not possible for the wormholes to exist since it is in fact impossible for a traveler to pass through the wormholes since it is not possible to pass a horizon in single direction. If non exotic matter form the traveler, then the moment they reach at the middle of the wormhole then it is impossible to leave through the other side and again it is not possible to leave using the entry route since the entry side must have been a black hole, this therefore, means that nothing can manage to escape once it has entered into the radius of the Schwarzschild. Thus the wormholes do not exist and are only a fiction feature and they can only be proven by theories with no practical to prove their existence (Sexton, Para 5). Black holes are basically deformation of the continuum of space time that appears once there is an explosion of a star in the scale of supernova with its remains becoming the black holes and neutron of stars. The gravitational force pulling the black holes is very powerful and cannot even be withstood by thousands of sunââ¬â¢s masses. The white holes on the other hand are opposite to the black holes. Their work is to split matter into smaller pieces instead of eating as it is the case for the black holes (McElwee, Para 7). Theoretically the white holes are reverse to the black holes; their being is implied by a solution of square root which is taken to be negative of the metric to the Schwarzschild. This metric is basically based on the time symmetry of general relativity. This implies that the best definitions of white holes which can be taken to be technical are primarily black holes running in the reverse direction. This is location of space time which is not possible to reach instead of failing to escape (Kruglinski, Para 6). Conclusion The wormholes, black and white holes can only be explained theoretically even though it is possible to detect them by use of radio waves. Their existence therefore, remains theoretical as it is not supported by substantial practical evidence. But this cannot be taken to mean that they do not exist since more research work is being carried out and may be their existence might soon be revealed practically.
